First nesting attempts at the Deslauriers Island Colony

We observed the first nests (8 with 1 egg and 2 with 2 eggs) on Île Deslauriers during our first visit to the colony this afternoon. Nesting has therefore started around 16 April, which is a few days later than normal.

First 2015 sighting in Quebec

Despite a late spring, the first report of a marked bird (BH2L) in Quebec was on March 14 by Mr. André Pedneault at Parc Gagné near Laval-des-Rapides. This bird hatched in 2011 had been reared in captitivty at Le Nichoir with over 200 other chicks that felt from the roof of a building in the West Island where they had hatched. These birds were taken to Le Nichoir whose staff cared for them for about a month before they were released near the Beauharnois dam gull colony in collaboration with UQAM researchers. So far, 31 birds reared by Le Nichoir have been reported.
